How to reset your Hotmail Windows Live password

Right now, I am writing a couple of articles focused on Hotmail Windows Live the well-known email provider from Microsoft. I had no idea about what to write and I wanted to access Hotmail in order to see something that could inspire me. Since my last article was about how to send or receive emails from other accounts in Hotmail it seems that I`ve probably triggered a spam/protection filter and suddenly my Hotmail Windows Live password doesn`t work anymore. I am sure that this happened due to fact that my email address is new ( only a couple of days old ).

I am sure that this is my password, I`ve written my password so that I can be sure that I won`t forget it and still, I am unable to access my email using my Windows Live ID and password. Dear reader, if you`re here because of this message ``That password is incorrect. Try again.`` you probably want to find out how to reset your Hotmail Windows Live password. First thing to do is to click on ``Can`t access your account?`` link.

You should be taken to ``Reset your password`` section. Here you can read ``Get help with a forgotten password and other problems signing in``. Depending on your situation select one of the following: I forgot my password; I know my password and Windows Live ID, but can`t sign in; I think someone else is using my Windows Live ID. I`ve selected the second option because that`s the truth, I know that my password and my ID are good but I can`t sign in. After I choose the second option, I received two recommendations:

1. Be sure that Caps Lock isn`t on (passwords are case sensitive) - it`s not the case here, I double-checked and I am not using CAPS LOCK.
2. If you still can`t sign in, reset your password. - did you noticed the blue link called ``reset your password ?`` - I will follow this link.

 

I am eagerly waiting to reset my Hotmail Windows Live password and I am being verified: ``To reset your password, enter your Windows Live ID and the characters in the picture below.`` I`ve entered everything they requested, take a look at this picture:

 

 

Final step: ``Select an option for resetting your password.`` so I have to choose between a reset link via my primary email ( the backup email that I`ve used when I created my Hotmail - Windows Live email account ) and contacting ``Customer support`` ( If you can`t reset your password, please contact customer support for assistance.). In this example, I am going to choose to reset my password with a link sent to my other email address registered at Yahoo.

 

After performing this action, you can read the following: ``We sent a link to reset your password to the following email addresses. If you still can`t reset your password, you can come back in 24 hours for more options.``

 

Keep in mind that when I followed these directions for the first time, nothing happened. I checked my Inbox and also Spam folder and the message that allowed me to reset my password didn`t arrived. I`ve been waiting for a couple of minutes and I started over. The second attempt was a successful  one, I`ve received two emails instead of one, both of them with the same content. Here is the content of this email received in my Yahoo email, both text and picture:

 

 

After I clicked on the link to reset my ( Hotmail ) Windows Live account password I was automatically redirected to this page which tells me to enter a new password twice. I`ve entered my new password and clicked on the ``Next`` button.

 

 

Finally, I am being redirected to this page ``You have changed your password`` - Use your new password to sign in to Windows Live ID sites and services.

 

When I tried to log in again using my new password, it finally worked ! I am happy that I`ve recovered my Hotmail Windows Live password. Please note that when you will login in after the recovering process you will probably going to be redirected to ``Account overview`` section. At least this is where it took me after my first login but it doesn’t matter, the most important thing is that I managed to reset my Hotmail Windows Live account password. One more thing, just in case you`re wondering why I wrote a similar article with the one called How to change Hotmail password in Windows Live, I just want you to know that this is a different story. You can change your password when you have access to your account but this is not the case here. Here, we are talking about how to recover your Hotmail - Windows Live password, although the technical term here is called ``reset`` this is a simple recovery process via another email that you own.
