Google is without a doubt the name of a company that we associate when we`re talking about Internet. Google, like other big players will remain in our history. I can`t say that Google is something good or bad, only the time will tell. We can`t blame those responsible for the success of Google because they created ``something`` that changed our lives. Until now, Google offered me a lot of information and in the end, due to fact that I am a member of their program ( Google Adsense ) it really helped me to earn some money. Nothing is perfect and Google is far away from being perfect and it will never going to return the perfect search results or became the only big player on the Internet. Until now, everything was great for me and never had a problem with their front page until today. This is a picture with the new look of Google.
When you`re looking at the new page, you will notice the black bar across the top which has something to offer: more services when compared with the old page. I don`t want to talk about why this black bar isn`t a blue bar or a green bar or any other color but I would like to talk about the purpose of this bar.
It`s not a secret that Facebook became a threat for Google. As a response, Google tried to fight back with different services such as Google Buzz, Wave and anything else that could allow them to gain some happy users on the same ``social phenomen``
In my opinion, this is a bad move. I can only guess that it`s a move taken by a corporation and if I am right, they were probably thinking at a well-known motto: ``If you can`t beat them, join them`` which is obviously not available in this case and I will explain why.
Google is a search engine, a wonderful one, the best since 1999 and nowadays. A search engine should concentrate on improving his search algorithm.
Facebook is a social network, a phenomen indeed but it`s not something that you would want to use daily for the rest of your life.
Google should remain simple, extremely easy to use, fast and non-invasive with the user. The relationship between Google and the user should be the one of a friend without any other obligations. This was the success of Google.
Facebook has created his own database based on ``it`s cool to have this``. Why should you search for friends, relatives and keep connected with them when you can have all of them in your account ? This is Facebook, it gives what you need without having to search.
I can go on with hundreds or even thousands of examples but that`s not the purpose of this article. I also talked about Facebook because my problem with black bar across the top is actually the Google response to Facebook. If you`re going to look on the right side, there is an option called ``Connect`` which makes me wonder if this is a search engine or another social network. Okay, let`s suppose that Google is trying to integrate their own social network right on their main page. Why they are doing this ? Because of Facebook ? Why do I have to see that ugly black bar, which is also very annoying for a guy like me ? I was always convinced that if you can create something good, I mean really good, you don`t have to change it. You can improve it but not radically.
Right now, I feel that my friend has changed without asking me, his true loyal friend since 2001. Maybe I liked him so much that I didn`t want him to change. Let those who are interested in using Facebook to stay there and also let those who just want to use the front page as their page from where they can search anything they want unchanged.
