Find your MAC and IP address in Windows
In this how-to article I am going to show you how to find your your MAC and IP address in Windows. If you don't know what is an MAC and IP address, read this answer and return here. Now, probably you're asking yourself if you're using the right version of Windows. Don't worry if you are using one of the Windows XP versions, it doesn't count if it's Home, Professional, SP1, SP2 or SP3. This article will provide instructions even if you're using Windows 2000 or even NT. If you don't use Windows XP, don't worry, as far as I know, this method described here should work both on Windows Vista and 7. Let's get started, press the Start menu button in your Windows and the press the Run... box just like in the picture below ( if your desktop is configured in other theme, look for the "Run..." box that looks like the one in this picture ) :

If you chosed Run... in your Windows menu, then you should see a new small window like in the next picture, make sure that you type in that window this command "cmd" and a new black window will open, please type "cmd" without the quotes and then press OK.

Now you should see a black window that has a similar title with this one "C:\WINDOWS\system\32\cmd.exe" this is also known as the Command Prompt Window for Windows versions.

In this black window please type the following command ( without using the quotes ) "ipconfig /all" and press the ENTER key of your keyboard, just exactly as you see in the next picture :

If you typed "ipconfig /all" and pressed ENTER button from your keyboard you should see in the same window some results, here in this window you can find your MAC and IP address and more informations. So, look below the Ethernet Adapter, at the Physical Address and you should see your MAC address - it's the one called 00-1E-53-51-25-3E - this is different for each MAC address so you should see different numbers in your command prompt window. Ans as you can see my IP address is being displayed at the IP Address section 192.168.2.124. This is the ip address that I have assigned from my router and not my Internet real IP address, don't worry I will explain it to you right away. Now you need to note your MAC address and your IP address on a piece of paper somewhere because you cannot copy and paste them. If you noted them somewhere you can exit from this window by typing "exit" and the window will close. Now you've learned how to find the mac and ip address in Windows. There are many other methods but this is the best one.

For those who didn't understand what are their IP address and the MAC address, here they are take a look at those pictures :

You cannot view your MAC address and IP address if you network card is not installed or it is being disabled. You know that your network card is being disabled if you are going to view a message like in this picture :

If you are going to see the results like in the next window that means that you are able to see your MAC address but you cannot view your IP address because there is no LAN cable connected to your computer or your Internet Connection has not been created. In that case when you will create your Internet Connection and you will be able to access the Internet, you will see your IP address to.

I also said that the IP address of my computer is starting with 192.168 - all the IP addresses starting with this format are reserved only for LAN networks and are being assigned by your router. If you want to see your real IP address that your internet provider has assigned it to your computer ( network card ) you need to enter on google or on your favourite search engine and search for "show IP address" and there are a lot of websites that will reveal your real IP address assigned to you by your ISP ( Internet Service Provider ).
